Проект «The new color» 2011 г.

В 2014 г. для Музея печати был разработан проект «I print therefore I am» как переосмысление печатных материалов.

Human Aspect Beyond Human Contexts

Egor Kraft’s interdisciplinary activities spread over such areas as media, computer science, critical studies, philosophy, and art. The artist lives and works both in Russia and abroad. His professional background includes Rodchenko Art School, Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Central Saint Martins, New Normal programme at Strelka Institute.  The author has also won Lumen, Re: Humanism, Innovation, Kandinsky, and other awards. In 2017, the artist was included in the New East 100, which is a Calvert Magazine’s list of people and projects shaping our world today.

Egor Kraft presented a series of his current works, short films, and research including his forthcoming article called Content Aware Studies Series. “Structures of exponentially increasing capacities, synthetic intelligence, data monopolies and power structures, ubiquitous mechanic analysis and interpretation, planetary scale computation, technopolitics and cyberwars, agencies human and artificial, biotechnological interventions, speculative crypto-economies – all these and many other non-human cognitive perspectives reconstitute the aspect of human and a new geological epoch”.

Mr. Kraft described his sphere of interest as esthimalogical and ontological. He explores the problem of the collision of the virtual and the real world. The author sees the birth of new aesthetic forms and visual languages at the intersection of those two worlds.

In his opinion, computer culture and the internet in general are a mega-structure existing as a physical infrastructure occupying a huge area of cables, data centres, satellites, computers, etc.

Using his projects as an example, the artist outlined the main aspects of his work. The New Colour project created in 2011 is about a company that developed a colour that can only be seen through a digital device. That’s one of the first projects demonstrating the role of technology in the production of information and new meanings. It was later supplemented by an installation with letters to the company from people who describe that colour. The work is also about the true and fake natures of information in the media age.

In 2014, the project called I Print Therefore I Am was developed for the Print Museum as a reinterpretation of print materials. The artist questions the significance and utilitarianism of print in a time of digitally active virtual media.

Kickback is a project-intervention carried out jointly with H&M. It is dedicated to consumer culture and mass-market.

The author explores the durability of media in the URL Stone project. An engraved Wikipedia link on a marble slab makes us think: which documentation will last longer, virtual or real. That’s a project “designed to last a thousand years”.

The Fair Data is a blockchain project, which is an attempt to write ‘the constitution of the new internet’ and at the same time to build a world, in which our data cannot be stolen.

One of the artist’s main projects today is called Content Aware Studies Series dedicated to working with artificial intelligence. It is an attempt to reconstruct missing elements in ancient sculpture using network analysis. The project presupposes a peculiar study of history by artificial intelligence and an attempt to understand whether human expertise should be more authoritarian than algorithmic expertise.

Leaning on the research of media culture theorists, the artist proposes not to restrain technology but to pay more attention to the design of technology, which will solve the problem of human-machine interaction in an eco-friendly way.
