Мокьюментари-проект основан на истории, произошедшей в китайской компании Foxconn, где более 10 сотрудников, работавших на конвейерной сборке электроники для Apple, Intel, Microsoft и т.д., покончили жизнь самоубийством.

«Я не помню, зачем я зашла в тот день на eBay и что я там искала. Но, бесцельно рассматривая картинки и поделки в разделе Art, я наткнулась на коробочку с рисунками. Она привлекла меня своей интимной наивностью и загадочностью. В описании значилось, что она принадлежала неизвестному автору из города Шеньженя и была найдена в некоем отеле постояльцами.

Мне было непонятно, зачем люди продают коробочку милых рисунков по бросовой цене. Выглядело это так, будто от нее избавляются. Я поискала название города, и выяснилось, что это город-фабрика, принадлежащий компании Foxconn. Никаких туристических гостиниц там нет. Есть общежития наподобие хостелов, в которых живут рабочие с фабрики.

Когда я получила посылку, внутри было около 50 акварелей. Почти на всех них нарисованы цветы и только на некоторых ‒ портреты. А на коробочке сохранились две надписи: одна ‒ похожая на подпись, другая ‒ на иероглиф.

Среди имен погибших на фабрике Foxconn в 2011 г. я нашла иероглиф с коробочки. “Fell from building at Shenzhen plant” ‒ значится в Википедии. Я не знаю наверняка, принадлежали ли рисунки из коробочки этому человеку или нет. Но я знаю, что кому-то они больше не нужны»

The pseudo-documentary project is based on a story that happened in the Chinese company Foxconn. More than 10 employees working on the assembly line for Apple, Intel, Microsoft, and other producers of electronic devices committed suicide.

“I don’t remember why I visited eBay that day or what I was looking for there. While aimlessly looking at pictures and crafts in the Art section, I saw a box of drawings. It attracted me with its intimate naivety and mystery. The description indicated that it belonged to an unknown author from Shenzhen and was found in a hotel by some guests.

I couldn’t understand why people would sell a box of pretty drawings for such a small price. It looked like they were getting rid of it. I looked up the name of the town and it turned out to be a factory town owned by Foxconn. There are no tourist hotels there. There are only dormitories like hostels where the factory workers live.

When I got the package, there were about 50 watercolor pictures inside. Almost all of them were pictures of flowers and only a few were portraits. There are also two inscriptions on the box. One looks like a signature and another one looks like a kanji.

Among the names of those who died at the Foxconn factory in 2011, I found a hieroglyph from the box. “Fell from building at Shenzhen plant” is written on Wikipedia. I don’t know for sure whether the drawings from the box belonged to this person or not. But I do know that someone doesn’t need them anymore”.
