This year, the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Design invited four interesting people to make DOCA more interesting. Each of them is a workshop manager. Zhenya Mikheyeva, participant of special projects at the 2nd Moscow International Biennale and the 4th Moscow Biennale alongside with FORMA festival, was a workshop manager on working with space. She conquered the listeners with her simplicity in communication. Misha Most, who is an underground artist, managed a workshop on sculptures. He told about his art works and invited the students to choose the kind of sculptures to be made for DOCA. Photographer Anton Burdenko was a workshop manager on photography. At the first meeting, this multi-faceted artist told the students about his works and provided many useful pieces of advice.
Workshops are the perfect way to make students closer to one another and acquaint them with talented professionals from different artistic fields. This is the ability for all students to come out and develop new skills.
Yulia Nikiforuk, student of the Faculty of Design, shared her impressions of the workshops.
Workshop by Anton Burdenko “Anton turned out to be a very sociable person. At the first meeting with him, we immersed into work from the very start. First, the students told him about themselves. Then Anton introduced himself to them. All the participants prepared their portfolios. Despite the fact that the workshop focused on photography, the meeting was also attended by students of the Faculty of Design. Anton convinced us that everyone will have a some kind of work within his workshop. After getting acquainted with us, he delivered a short lecture about the possible ways of developing out project. It was extremely interesting! We found out many new things. Anton shared his experience and advice and told us about his life. At the end of the meeting, he showed us a video. Everyone were intrigued and were looking forward to working on our workshop’s project. Anton set the tasks to be addressed in the future. We will have many meetings with interesting people and a lot of work to be done. However, that doesn’t scare any of us because we all are full of the desire to create an extraordinary project for DOCA 2016!”
Workshop by Zhenya Mikheyeva “At the beginning of the meeting, Zhenya told us about her works. They all were extraordinary ones and impressed everyone. She prepared a short lecture titled ‘Simple Rules. Zhenya told us about how we will work and what we will need. Using works by such famous people as Weiwei Ai, Fischli & Weiss, Yasumasa Morimura, and Erwin Wurm as examples, she showed us that any usual object could become an extraordinary one when placing it in unusual situations. Then we proceeded to the first task. We were to make installations using materials on hand. A chair was an obligatory element in any work. We had only 5 minutes to do that. After finishing the preparation, we invited other participants of the workshop and told them about the concept and name of our installations. Then we jointly discussed the author’s idea. The process of all our work was photographed. So, we surely won’t forget those bright memories! That was amazingly funny and interesting! We have been struck by Zhenya’s simplicity in communication. She won our interest. Everyone without any exception liked her very much!”
